Ambush Peak

Quick report

Probably some time on 7/24/25, a 150 foot wide section of the remaining snowfield on Ambush peak's north buttress glide avalanched down to bedrock. A well-known (but maybe not well-travelled) rock route 'Golden Dihedral' is in the immediate vicinity of this slide, and it is fully reasonable to expect a party to approach or descend this route directly through the debris zone of this unsurvivable concrete snow-on-talus mass wasting. Two days prior we were a mere 600 feet away at the toe of the buttress. A somber reminder to steer clear of avalanche slopes at all times of year! Two days prior (7/22/25), a potentially refrigerator-sized block was observed from hundreds of feet away sliding down the same snow field that eventually avalanched.
