GTNP - Ullr/25 Short

A significant amount of wind affect at and above the treeline on top of 25 Short in the park this morning. Drifts were up to 4 feet thick on ridgelines at 10,000 feet with active wind loading persisting at upper elevations through the morning. This has been a windy 24 hr period. Wind-pressed snow existed down to 8000 feet. Surprisingly, the only avalanche noted is the one below on a NE aspect at 9800' that most likely went last night or yesterday at some point. Possibly a second noted in Avalanche Canyon on a SE aspect aroung 9400 feet, but hard to tell from where I was.

We still have an early season snowpack, especially at lower elevations, with a snow height of about 3 feet at 8500' and 2 feet at below 7500. Watch out for buried obstacles on your way out of the mountains!
