Quick Observation
Went up to Hector glacier today. Access was a little tricky down low and we boot packed small sections in the waterfall area. Ski crampons are currently mandatory. Saw lots of wet and persistent slab avalanches from the recent warm up, up to sz 3. Snow quality improved above 2400m and there was 5-10cm of wind effected powder on the glacier that skied great. Variable coverage on the glacier especially lower down. Lowest HS was 90cm and highest was 260cm. Did not dig a pit but snowpack felt progressive and dense with the probe. Turned around at 3200m before the slightly steeper section due to a time restraint and some uncertainty. Great ski quality up high turned to hard skiing at lower elevations. Temps stayed cooler for longer today (0 degrees at 2400m at 1:30pm.) L to M winds from the S/SW all day.
