Took a crown profile of the recent large avalanche in the powder corns. It slid on depth hoar at the ground. Large chunks of solid debris ran to the floor of the cirque. The basal crust of refrozen depth hoar grains is incredibly fragile and falls apart with minimal force. Similarly depth hoar above the crust is tenuously refrozen together and falls apart easily.
