Quick report

Our observations consisted of both an Extended Column Test and Compression Test. During our Compression tests, we observed the persistent layer remaining at 40-60 cm in the snowpack. The snow pack is becoming more stable as our test scored CT27@40cm, however it should be noted the column did completely facture at 40cm and slide off the block below with ease (noted in picture). Other Compression tests did reveal the new snowpack layer to also remain weak with a CT17@100cm, making the potential for loose snow avalanches to exist. During our Extended Column Tests, we observed minor column fractures at 100 cm (ECTN18@100cm) and at 80cm (ECTN26@80cm). However, we could not get the column to propagate during the test. Given our findings, caution should still be given on steep slopes, prone to slide, as a persistent layer remains in the snowpack and the potential for a remote trigger remains.

Snowpack

Snow pack is firming up with the colder temperatures. Snow at our location measured 140cm, east facing aspect, at an altitude of 10,480'. Multiple storm layers were recorded with the persistent layer remaining at 40-60 cm.
