Observation: Park City Ridgeline

Facets near the ground unreactive in this spot. The October rain crust was directly on the ground in most places, and thicker than I've seen.

Keeping my eye on the upper, surface snow. Where wind and sun haven't hammer it, it's recrystallizing, and there seem to be two layers. A forecast of a small storm followed by more high pressure could continue to preserve some of the near surface facets. Happy to see on sunny slopes the newer snow has melted, and refrozen into the widespread crust. This faceting surface snow could be more of a problem where it ends up sitting on wind slab.

A skiff of new snow.  Many aspects wind or sun crusted.   There is soft faceting surface snow, but only on shady, wind sheltered slopes and it's "pockety".
