Upper portion skied stable with storm snow on a solid bed surface. Limited to minor sluff. At dog leg partner skied into a “safe zone” skiers right. Stood there for 10/15 second and a hard slab released 10 feet above. The slide was 1/1.5 feet deep, 15 feet wide in a protected corner. Did not pull out all the way across the couloir. Just the pocket. Skier was carried 50 feet. In process of self arrest, knee was injured. Dynafit toe was locked in extreme terrain. Extremely lucky outcome wasn’t worse…. Poles were found at the apron…. Extreme terrain a small slide can create a huge impact. Worked out of the line safely after the incident. Had all resources to make it back to the car self support, but reached out to teton national park rangers to see what kind of opportunities they could provide. Huge thanks for a speedy and quick response. 2 rangers crossed Phelps lake to pick us up via snowmobile. Contact was made via cell phone and Inreach. It was flawless and made exit much faster.
