Went out with the goal to see some sweet views and ski a lot of vertical. The Wheeler Crest provided!! Skied up from the east fork parking of Rock Creek and were able to keep skis on almost to the summit of Wheeler Crest. En route at 11,000’ on a NW aspect our hand pit revealed 10cm of dry powder sitting on top of a 1cm MF crust. The next 60cm felt consolidated to a thick crust layer. Then the facet hands came out… 60cm to the ground at 130cm was sugary facets. With these findings I thought to dig in to see what Witcher may be hiding underneath but the snowpack was pretty dang shallow through much of the bowl. Snow quality was 5 out of 10 but a good time had by all.
