Quick report

Collapsing
widespread

Was skinning from Summit Meadows to Grouse Meadows traversing a north facing slope. The slope was pushing close to that 30 degree slope angle but the cover was thin, only 6 inches in most places that I wasn’t very concerned. Came around a finger, into a bowl and the snow was considerably deeper. I should’ve taken a pause to assess the situation better. Kept traversing across the bowl in the deeper wet snow which began to build up in my bindings. Standing on the slope I picked my ski up to clear the snow from under my boot. When I put my ski back on the snow surface, a wildly loud pop and whumpf from what sounded like 25m uphill of my position propagated to 50m forward of my position. Felt the entire surface I was standing on collapse down a bit as well.
