Quick report

Did a small tour off the resort to check out the snowpack and knock the rust off the shovel and probe. Dug a pit at ~6400ft on a sheltered East facing slope. Had two failures with a column compression test, one at 15 (~15” deep, Christmas crust?) and one at 26 on a much deeper but more pronounced layer of facets. Surprised at the snowpack depth here, 210-220cm to the base. Weather was fully overcast, foggy, with moderate snowfall. Ridges at upper elevations were getting sustained moderate winds, and none in sheltered terrain (where this pit was dug). Very low density snow was accumulating ~2-3” of fresh by 3pm, and looks like it started as loose groppel. Temps were well below freezing.
