Tumalo

Went out to Tumalo today. It was easily the best day I’ve had out there this season, and the most “winter-y” day of this “winter”! 1-2 feet of nice light pow that came in right-side up and stayed cold. Skinning near the rollover at the top of riders right side of bowl didn’t produce any cracking or movement. Snow there rode great! Stable, light pow. Skinning back up the ridge the normal route was REALLY cold, between the wind and cold temps we were skinning in puffy’s and helmet/goggles, and still cold. But that kept the snow great. The only instability we saw was cracking by the cornices on the far riders left of the bowl (and small storm slab triggered by kicking off cornice), and the rollover between the rocks in the middle. Did one lap descending there and triggered a small storm slab at the rollover, somewhat expected. Kicked off a couple cornices on the ridge to see what they did, that triggered a small storm slab but didn’t travel far, probably not even much of a D rating but could knock a rider off their feet. Overall, amazing to see winter finally show up! We were joking that maybe this is actually the first winter storm of NEXT season… 🤣
