Upper ~10cm of snow on all aspects was low density and lacked cohesion. Observed several shallow dry loose releases on steep open slopes below treeline.

We experienced mostly overcast skies with brief moments of sun peaking through around mid day. By mid-afternoon the cloud cover became obscured. Snow was falling heavily throughout the day, at times at rate of over 2cm/hour. Below treeline, winds were moderate coming out of the west, with snow transport visible along upper ridges.
Snowpack
We found up to 35cm of low density new snow, which fell on a Melt-Freeze crust on all aspects that receive sun exposure (everything but North). Crust was most stout on southern aspects and in trees. New snow appeared to be well bonded to this crust with right side up structure.
At 7,000 ft on a North facing slope, we found a 330cm snow pack depth. In this location we observed a 1cm layer of Buried Surface Hoar underneath new snow, 35cm below snow surface. This surface hoar layer was reactive to stability tests with results of CT10 SC and ECTP10. With an extended weather forecast showing sustained cold temps and more new snow, this will be a layer to keep a close eye on.
