Baldface Knob
Quick report
- Cracking
- widespread
- Collapsing
- widespread
Basal facets were widely present in the east and south facing terrain. The weak layer yielded sudden results and propagation. A 30cm 4F layer exists mid snowpack. Test slopes were unable to be triggered. Steeper, less supported test slopes or areas with a more continuous bed surface (such as the rock slabs around the Baldface Cirque zone) might have been able to be triggered. Whumpfs occurred above 1k' in elevation routinely while stepping out of the skin track and then in the alpine zone. Cracks propagated on average 10-15'.

Snowpack
- Field HS ranged from 45-80cm. - At 3k' on the east side of Baldface knob a test profile produced 2x CTE SP @ down 80cm and an ECTPV. - Test slopes whumpfed and cracked but were resistant to sliding, even with compressive support removed. - The snowpack is predominately F density with a 30cm layer of 4F mid pack. - The top 5cm of new snow produced isolated cracking and moved easily in hand shears tests.
