Evidence of natural avalanche cycle from near the end of the storm, at the head of Douglas Creek Valley, in the size 4 neighborhood. Debris looked to be around 2-3 days old, running full path from lee slopes on Girlfriend Bowl and Wesach Peak Ridge. Debris terminating lower fan. Slopes on climbers left of the chute had also released, at or near ground. Visible crowns varying in depth, over 1m in spots.
Most significant ob was the size 2 natural avalanche that overran our tracks from the morning, by a few meters, on the first third of the alpine traverse above the chute. The crown was about 100m wide and total length close to the same. Slab thickness estimated at 1m, releasing to ground in places.
Since Christmas there have been several reports of rider triggered avalanches in the Kalum Valley, north of Terrace, releasing "down to brown." Probing at treeline in these areas there is a noticeable crust sitting 10-20 cm above ground. I'm starting to think we may have a problem down there, at least in those zones.
