<p>We had an AST 1 class out today under beautiful sunny skies. A strong temperature inversion saw temps of -16C at the highway and -8C just 200m above. The place is covered in a thick rain crust to 1600m that now has surface hoar and facets on top of it. It will be a layer to watch once it gets buried. We stuck mainly to mellow, open alpine slopes and were able to ski on a supportive crust. We dug snow profiles at 1100m on a north facing slope. It was wind loaded and had 220cm of snow on it. We got repeatable ECTP hard results on a crust/SH combo down 70cm. The group witnessed a large avalanche from about 3km away at the back of the drainage. This was a size 3 avalanche. Details can be found in a separate MIN report.
