Spent an excellent few days in the Selkirks north of Nelson this week. Trail breaking with the sleds up the road was deep. Snowpack varied from 130cm-175cm by Friday. Consistent snow quality from 2300m-1800m and very little, if any wind effect. By Friday afternoon the snow below 1800m started to get a bit more moist with a bit of warming but Freezing levels stayed closer to the valley. A few other observations of note; skiing is all time and some of the best experienced in several years in November, the snow is supportive but deep and there were no instabilities to note. All in all a great start to the year waking up the trail breaking legs right off the get-go!
