Keepin it mellow

Skied from km 15 at the Gorge today. Played it safe after the storm and stuck to mellow slopes. Looked like at least 2-3 other groups out enjoying the day. Noticed a large glide crack at the bottom of the knob directly up the drainage from the pullout and a natural slab avalanche higher up the knob in the steep trees. Crown appeared to be ~1m thick. See photo.
About 40cm fresh from yesterday with a mild wind effect starting around 1900m. Snow was heavy powder and sitting on a soft crust (east facing slope) but no tree bombs or other signs of significant warming. Cloudy/foggy and lightly snowing (rounds in AM changing to stellars in PM) with light winds all day. Temp was -3 when we started and -5 at 1900m around 12pm. Ski pen was 20-30cm depending on location. The snowpack felt generally well-consolidated with a crust 40 and 70cm down at 1900m. HS was 130cm. Road was not plowed. Bring chains.
