Today we rode the Onion in whiteout condition. We groped our way around bouncing off old, hard, wind effected snow. There are pockets of soft snow in very sheltered features.
We dug in a sheltered location at TL and found the Jan 26(10 cm of facets over a melt freeze crust) down 45-50 cm and was reactive in all our snowpack tests. Extended column test moderate propagated across x2, Propagation Saw Test 50/100.
This Jan 26 layer is our main concern in the valley right now. Forecasting for this type of problem is tricky due to the variability of snow depth above this layer as well as the inconsistency of the snow crystal form on top of the crust.
Help us by digging profiles and sent in your MINS.
Thanks
