We attempted to climb Whympy Kid on Nov 1. Snow depth was 10-15cm at valley bottom, then boot top while gaining the fan, and finally up to 80+cm drifts while in the couloir. Low, thick clouds, warmer than expected temps (above zero at 10:30am), and more snowfall than expected (S1/2) encouraged us to bail at the base. 45 minutes later, at 11:15am, a size 1.5/2 avalanche released from the same aspect on Whymper main, followed by numerous sluff avalanches during our hike out. It was raining at Castle Junction on the drive home.
