Incident

Skied from 9600 to 8000 ft in very hard wind effected snow on North and West aspects. At 8000 ft we came to a South facing feature that led back to the rest of the West facing run in order to get to the Sleds at 7400 ft. Snow was softer at this point however wind crust was still present. First Skier skied feature to safe zone without incident, second skier entered slope and dug in deeper through wind crust. Subsequently heard two load pops and most of the slope ripped out taking skier for intense ride. Swimming method was used to stay on top and resulted in skier being able to stop prior to being pushed all the way the bottom were snow pilled up in spots. The avalanche had run to ground on basal facets however initial fracture was on the overlying windslab. No burial or injuries, just a slap in the face wake up call!
