Went to Huntington to see how new snow was bonding to thursdays rain melt layer. WX: obscured sky cover uphill. When looking down valley the sky was more broken. Snowing at a rate of s1+ and was falling as 3mm graupel and irregular crystals. Light-moderate sustained winds that was sporadic at times. Strong gusts with intense snow transport happening. Given the current WX conditions while observing we opted to not dig a full pit. Shovel shears showed weak bonding and failed on isolation. Exposed 70cm of snowpack at the climbers right of Damnation @ 4300’. What we found here was 15cm of 1F new snow on top of a knife hard layer for 35cm. Below this there was a 20cm layer of 1F saturated snow. We skiied down from here and was able to find some soft snow in the lower part of the fan on our exit. The fire road was skiing great with no major obstacles to avoid providing a nice ski out!
