At 8600 feet on a south southwest facing slope we found 30 cm of new snow down to ground. It was fairly dense snow(good for making snowballs), getting lighter on top. There was moderate wind out of the south and it was snowing lightly. In a south facing gully at 8770 feet there were 45 cm of snow on a solid layer that was almost ice. Climbing, we had some cracks coming out from our skis primarily where there was enough under brush to create air pockets under the new snow. On the north facing slopes, there were 30 cm of new snow on a crust and then 20 cm of fairly heavy wet, unconsolidated snow to the ground
