Quick report
We explored the mostly sunny slopes of Jakes Peak above Emerald Bay today. The coverage is just barely sufficient to continue to travel from the car on skis in this area. At the lowest elevations this won't continue much longer. Sunny slopes were softening by 9am. As we ascended we could see the air pollution trapped in the inversion over South Lake Tahoe. This appeared to persist until around 10:30am. Descending around 12:30pm I observed small amounts of skier triggered wet loose snow moving down the slope. Given the time of the year, shadows were already growing and these slopes would begin cooling relatively soon after this. The snow on the more east facing terrain in the trees was impressively soft and rode relatively well. When I got home I doublechecked this terrain on a topographic map and was surprised how it was essentially due east and had still experienced a decent amount of near surface faceting.
