What a difference a day makes. SW winds increased overnight and were blowing hard in the high country in this area. Actively loading and creating isolated wind slabs on north facing terrain. Slabbing up the snow in spots and creating wind dunes in others. Stripping the trees of snow and reducing snow surfaces to bare ground near the ridges or down to old shiny rain crusts in others. One such ridgeline had created sensitive cornices. We stomped on one and it easily broke, dropped, and released a small 1-2 inch thick wind slab that didn’t run far but scared us off of steeper terrain in the same area. And so starts the slow degradation of the snow surfaces during this prolonged high pressure period we are entering👎
