Third day in a row out doing the same loop. I think it’s good to go someplace consistently and observe changing snow conditions. Again, today’s SAC forecast was spot on, describing expected changing and variable snow and weather conditions. There was plenty of evidence of new snow and wind transported snow. CSSL reported 2.2” of snow, but there was easily 6-8” blown in. Yesterday’s skin track to Castle Pass had a few inches on it this morning, and was only made difficult by a solo snowboarder postholing up dragging a snowboard ahead of me. High winds last night had mostly wiped out the skin track up the shoulder of Castle, and the last two days tracks in NW Trees had completely filled in with 6” of wind blown snow. The skin track out to Castle Pass was only partially filled in, indicating lower winds below the ridge. Skin track up Andesite was stripped of snow, and the deposition was stiff wind buff. A couple laps found stiffer snow in the sun and softer snow in the shade. I didn’t see, feel, hear or smell any signs snow instability today.
