Quick report
Another fun early-season day skinning Silver Fir -- again a couple of laps both morning and evening. Less precip today -- especially mid-day. Light snow began in mid/late afternoon, making skintracks velvet again. Precipitation intensity increased in late evening. Moderate snow showers at the Pass became hard rain at Exit 47 as we descended around 8pm. Full clouds all day today, with clouds hovering just a few hundred feet above pass-level. One tiny patch of blue in mid-afternoon and a little bit of variation in the lower cloud-deck gave a single glimpse into the alpine (see photos). Ski-quality was heavier today, but still soft and fun even as refreezing kicked in at dusk. Still nary a rock felt; remarkable with such a thin snowpack. Uphill skiers: In an autumn call about uphill skiing with the Summit's management, among their major concerns were dogs (forbidden by the uphill policy and a serious safety concern when the ski-area is operating) and people peeing in ski-runs and near their infrastructure. It is difficult to address the other issues (parking among them), but keeping the snow clean is something everyone can do.
