-HN was 40cm. New snow isn't bonding very well to old surfaces (surprise, surprise). Slab was F hard in non wind effected terrain, and cracking was isolated to directly under skis. Anywhere the wind got to surfaces and stiffened the snow, cracks were able to travel longer distance. - Once we got to the first bump and poked into previously less trampled snow we started hearing large, booming collapses. -We didn't get good visibility to see avalanche activity in the middle and upper elevations. - We kept slope angles under 30*. First day of skiing in my life where it was too deep and also too shallow.
Avalanche
Observed multiple avalanches while driving up the pass. Hard to keep track of what has already been reported, but many road cuts facing E-NE-N avalanched. One small, yet surprising avalanche occurred on a small N facing slope above the Twin Bowls pull out. All were D1 in size, mostly based on small terrain features.
