Very challenging travel conditions below ~5k today. At treeline we found appx 10 cm of new snow, drifted, and poorly bonded to the crust interface below. Multiple hand sheers revealed near crust faceting below the most recent freeze thaw layer (appx 3cm thick) that released on isolation in one hand pit and was resistant planar in others. HS 250cm at 5200 on south facing aspects, CT 22 @ HS 220 on this layer, did not perform an ect or shovel shear. Not many new snow instabilities that we saw, lot of isolated cracking while skiing, but no cohesive slabs on test slopes. They did entrained a significant amount of loose dry(-ish) snow, but didn’t propagate.
