Quick report
Travelled from snowbowl to Murphy peak ft via ridge line, returned back through the bowls. Travelled from 7,000-8,200ft. Saw no signs of instability during our day, but many old pinwheels and rollerballs. Variable was the word of the day with one common theme; all aspects that were open to the sky and protected from winds had a layer of surface hoar ranging from 5mm to 3 cm. On solar aspects this surface hoar rested on top of a melt freeze crust, and on W & NW aspects it rested on windboard. SH existed in start zones at ridge lines. E aspects has small isolated pockets of old wind slabs. The sun was hiding behind a thin layer of clouds all day, and the supportive crust on solar aspects never softened. N & NE aspects remained dry above 7k, and had snow available for transport. We had very little questions about stability and stepped into bigger terrain with no issues.
