Quick report

A cornice broke naturally but did not drop and run. The mostly intact cornice failed to initiate any slab activity below it. Current hazards to skiers include exposed/lurking creeks, waterways, rocks, and logs.

Avalanche

Spotted what appeared to be a crown from the road. Skinned up and I believe it is a cornice release. Some elements of this (notable that it broke down to ground) are perhaps more similar to glide, however due to the ridge line location I believe it was natural/cornice. The cornice collapsed but did not trigger a slab below. It appears one section of the cornice “wagon wheeled” and gouged a deep trough almost to the ground. My best guess is that this event happened >24hrs ago.
