Elk Mountain

Skied off 1580m subpeak of Elk into N glades and cutblocks below. Beautiful preserved powder in the trees with no wind effect. Significant wind effect in the cutblocks with variable surface conditions (wind scoured, wind slab, pockets of preserved snow). No signs of slab releases after most recent storm. Steep N-facing test slope (wind sheltered) displayed fast sloughing, but no slab properties/propagation/cracking. Line skied below top of subpeak had minor wind effect, but mostly powder. 1500m obs - ski pen 25cm, boot pen ~50cm Weather - cool, high overcast with small storm moving in around noon, bringing increasing W winds and ~2cm of snow. Clearing trend afterwards with occasional breaks in cloud cover.
