Surface hoar on East aspect Healy Pass

Very sensitive snow pack in open trees on East aspect. Observed shooting cracks, with propagation upto 3m from skier and large settling. Quick hand pit showed about 30cm of storm snow on top of surface hoar. Turned around and skied very mellow slopes. A small 0.5 slab avalanche released on a small convexity. South facing aspects with heavy wind affect did not have the surface hoar layer.
