Quick Observation
Forum ridge was the perfect Valentines Day date. Rode awesome. ECTN26 on a 33 degree slope. Height of snow was 145 cm. Temps were -10 at warmest and -17 at coldest up on ridge. The strong sun made it feel spring like at times though. Took a pretty decent shovel pull after the taps but simultaneously fractured down 25cm on what I’m assuming was last Sundays wind slab and 45 cm down on the bottom of the super thick rain slab from early February. We rode down the fairly open trees and made sure to stay away from the open bowl and gullies. Coverage was by far best of season to date. First time not tapping stumps this year. There was some pretty good solar effect for a couple hours after lunch so won’t be surprised to see a decent sun crust after a colder night for tomorrow. The farther down the ridge you go the better the coverage. It still looks fairly thin on the north end of the ridge. Also of note is that while confident crossing the lake there was some very slushy areas that really glooped up the skins. Shore line trail might have been a better option.
