Quick Observation
We headed to Corbin Pass today to see if we could find the early January surface hoar, and also to see if there was any wind slab on top of it. The wind was calm to light all the way up to 2100 m, and we didn't see any evidence of old or new wind slabs on the surface in this area. We found surface hoar down 35 cm, but it this location, it was small and decomposing, and with no slab on top of it, definitely not a concern. We felt confident in skiing the Helen's path starting from the east facing slope at the top, and had good turns in boot-top powder.
Snowpack
At 1900 m, we did some quick snowpack tests on a northwest facing slope, and got no results. The surface hoar in that location was small (5 mm) and rounding, and there was only loose snow above it. The snowpack, was right side up, generally strong and well settled.
