On ascent to Ophir Peak from Chickadee Ridge, there was a noticeable scouring and variability of snow quality on the exposed NW shoulder of Ophir- scouring had occurred forming fin-drifts more or less parallel to fall line on 35-40 degree slope. Noticeably, underneath the shallow soft wind slab (~10-20cm deep) held a thick rain crust - ~2cm+, seeming thicker than that observed NW of Incline Peak on the 30th of Dec. The wind-effected snow seemed to be moderately bonded and no signs of instability were observed. The skiing was variable on the steeper, exposed shoulder of Ophir- while moving to the sheltered, moderately pitched trees down and to the west along chickadee ridge held much-improved snow surface and better quality skiing. Considerable rock exposures still exist on Ophir, even with the north-facing aspect, and may pose further points of weakness until snow pack depth increases.
