Quick report
Dug outside the Heavenly boundaries, on the upper reaches of Monument Peak at 9590' on a NE aspect. I intentionally targeted a shallower area, with HS in the 90-105 cm range, where I thought triggering a failure on one or both of the weak layers was more likely. I actually did not find the Jan.2 crust/facet combo at this location, probably because the high elevation at this site allowed it to escape previous rain and temperature events. The depth hoar was very evident at this location, and quite well developed. Snowpit tests illustrated that this layer is still weak, and while becoming harder to trigger, probably because of the dense snow above it, could still propagate a failure.
