East Peak

I took a short walk up East Peak before forecasting to see if much had changed in the last week and in preparation for this weekend's pattern change. I skied back toward the truck around noon, and slopes had softened slightly, but it was not enough to make it "winter corn". Travel conditions are largely the same as last week, maybe slightly better. Surfaces are still variable with plenty of weak snow.

There hasn't been much change to the snowpack. Sun-exposed slopes are generally in a melt-freeze cycle while other aspects contain various surfaces including firm crusts, breakable crust, and recycled powder.

There is some form of weak grains on every aspect and elevation; it's just a matter of how deep and what kind - surface hoar, near-surface facets, or crust.
