Quick report
Toured around the Tronson Head area of Blewett Pass, weather was relatively warm (30s) with sun breaks, and increasing winds and light snow as the day progressed. Snow pack varied during the tour, from some areas of drier powder to firmer crusts and wind slabs. First run of the day was down Diamond Head, no signs of instability observed, though some wind scoured surfaces near the top. Second run was down Tronson Head, and as we dropped off the top, I went second and triggered a slide. I was caught but not very far, no injuries or issues.
Avalanche
- Tronson Head, North Facing aspect (5900ft) - Believe it was a wind slab given the terrain, D1 - Naturally triggered a slide about 30 feet wide, 1 feet deep, and got carried only maybe 10 feet down the slope. - Second skier triggered the slide, first skier took the same path and didn’t trigger the slope.
