Quick Observation

Baldy had 20 cms of fresh snow then a heavy rain storm last week. There is now a 2cm crust of solid ice over the entire mountain. Small wind slabs on this crust were moving easily. We noticed many large cracks in the snowpack formed during the rainstorm.

Hard result 28cm down on surface hoar on another crust Middle snowpack is consolidated Old crust down 63 cm 4 cms of low density older facets on a hard crust down 81cm (!!!!) No result on this layer on an extended column, even when prying hard.
