Snowpack

Wandered around in the fog assessing the current state of the snowpack near Apex with Penticton Search and Rescue (PENSAR). Probe depths from 130cm to 205cm. Windloaded features up to 3m. Ski quality was fair. 5cm of new snow has been redistributed by south and west winds. Mainly dust on crust or scoured. Some soft snow in sheltered trees. Overall fair quality. Low angle was the best. Got sudden results in a test pit down 75cm on facets size 2-3 on an old melt freeze crust. Pencil hard snow above, so unlikely to be able to trigger anything this deep. The regular performer out in the main bowl is now windloaded 260-310cm deep and is primed for a large event. It will likely need to be weakened significantly by warming and so may not release until later in the spring.
