We explored the SE aspects around 9200-9300ft in trees above Horseshoe Lake to find out more about these persistent layers and how widespread they've become. On the approach just above the stables in the flats, as well as on the approach past Horseshoe Lake in the dead trees, we experienced isolated whumphs. Multiple CTM collapses just above a crust (2-3mm facets), with subsequent taps creating collapses in the basal facet layer below (4-5mm facets). Also performed tests on E and NE slopes nearby - also CTM's at facets within crust sandwiches, as well as some RP results at the newer (this week's storm snow) / older snow (previous colder storm snow) interface about 25 cm down. Total HS between 60 and 100cm. Surface snow on SE aspects was a bit manky today from solar input and above freezing temps. This was the first day this season I experienced some melt freeze crusts that occasionally interrupted our creamy skiing.
