Today we went skiing Rabbit gulch with the goal of avoiding steep terrain and spraying as much powder as possible. Above 6200' on open, Western aspects we noted a number of significant wumphs in the snow pack. These were specific to terrain with less tree shelter. We did not note this on other aspects likely because traffic in the area may have already triggered these collapses. We also noted the natural avalanche on the other side of the ridge on a east southeast aspect noted above. Overall, thesr observations line up with forecasted problems for the day and the stepping back mindset was a good one to have.
