Quick report
I drove through Crawford Notch to visually assess the current snowpack as there was a hopeful conversation of adding lower elevations back to our forecast with a significant snow storm coming in.
As you can see from the photos, there is very limited snow in Crawford which sadly means that lower elevations will not yet be returning to the forecast. There is some snow, very limited, and ice. This elevation is forecast by NWS to receive about 14 inches of snow with pretty light winds. Any avalanche problem here I would argue would resemble a storm slab, but as it is falling on bare ground, rocks, and a bit of snow it is unlikely to accumulate to much of a definable problem. Worth noting and something to consider coming into this significant storm Saturday and Sunday. Just because we are not forecasting, that does not mean that there isn't the potential for avalanches or they can’t happen.
