Mack and I skinned up the Gulf of Slides ski trail with the intention of checking out the most recent natural avalanche cycle. Skies started overcast with gradual clearing around noon, and we observed no wind all day. From the ski trail, we observed the crown of a large (R3-D2) avalanche in Gully #6. As we continued up the ski trail, about 50 yards past the last emergency cache, we noticed bent and broken trees and avalanche debris. We were surprised by the size of this previous avalanche in Main Gully (noted in other observations). The crown width was most of the avalanche path, but not beyond the tree islands lookers right of the path. From the width of the crown, amount of debris, and how far the avalanche appeared to have run, I would classify this as an R3-D2.
