Yesterday, we found a nice example of a buried SH layer in the Northern Bear River Range above Emigration Flats @ 8700', NNE... The preserved weak layer is widespread near the ridge top and in starting zones, not just isolated to valley bottoms.

A dusting of new snow helped the riding conditions and freshened up the views.

Snowpack

Beneath the dusting of fresh snow, the old snow surface is quite variable, with crusts of differing thickness on sunny slopes, wind crusts and sastrugi in exposed terrain, cornflake-like surface hoar, and soft and fairly deep, recrystalized powder (or faceted surface snow) in sheltered northerly terrain.
