Wanted to see what was going on in the Goring pond area since it was about the only place an old guy could get to today. Height of snow 105cm. I biscuit cut the top layers and saw about 5 cm of softer crust above 25 cm of pretty much an ice slab- maybe not quite knife hardness.
Below that it contains several layers -first a fairly loose layer and then several stiffer layers closer to the ground. It’s pretty easy to just walk around on the top and the ski out was pretty much survival mode on a trail covered with a solid layer of frozen graupel.
