My party saw signs of previous small loose avalanche activity from trigger points such as rock features or convexities on steeper slopes. These were reported earlier this week and were within the top, and newest 1-4 inches of the snowpack. We experienced similar, inconsequential sluff. While digging hand saw pits as we traveled, we were able to find faceted snow under the rain crust from late last week, about 40 cm down. This was difficult to move and we found no instability on this layer. No cracking or collapsing. The rain crust was thick and supportive. Aspects in the sun certainly experienced effects of solar radiation yesterday, while shaded aspects stayed cold and dry.
