Quick Observation
Two days of Skiing from Cameron Lake January 26 and 27. Significant wind at valley bottom, though light higher up. Day 1: Attempted to ski up to Summit Lake but turned around due to a more persistent wind slab above unconsolidated snow making travel very difficult. Moved over to do a lap or two of Forum Ridge staying a bit further north. Skiing here was great. Though persistent wind slabs (feeling un-reactive based on some kick tests) were found above 2000m. Day 2: Returned to Forum Ridge in the morning where we took a slightly more aggressive lap in the sparser trees lining up with the middle of the lake. Again, conditions were very good and no signs of instability aside from the wind slabs high up on the ridge. For a second lap we decided to make out way over to Rowe shoulder and skied the east/southeast aspect of this down to the parking area. By the afternoon temperatures were well above zero and snow becoming impacted by the sun. Travel above 1800m became difficult in unconsolidated snow. Skiing down felt more like spring conditions in the heavy snow.
