Skiing near the Pine Pass yesterday we found variable snow cover sitting atop the recent rain crust. This crust was present from highway elevation up to our high point of 1500m, was generally 2cm in thickness and supportive to our weight.
Recent N winds have scoured the snow down to the crust in certain locations and created wind pillows everywhere making for difficult track setting and unpredictable skiing due to varying storm snow depths (0-60cm).
