It was "R" ing in Fernie this morning so we headed North to Elkford where temperatures stayed a little cooler yesterday but there was only 5cm new snow and no signs of recent wind. Temperatures were warm +2 at staging and -1at 2200m. Warm temperatures and sun were the story today. These conditions were likely the cause of one of the south facing slopes on the trail to release a loose wet avalanche size 1.5 that followed a gully feature and stopped in the track. We also observed a size 1.5 on an east facing slope that was triggered by a cornice that released a small windslab. The sledding looked good but the snowpack is still shallow and we were breaking through the upper snowpack to the weak sugary snow at the bottom.
